We Need You: a call for volunteers aboard Silurian's Joint Warrior Survey

Despite the snowy skies and blustery winds, it’s not long now until Spring, and that can only mean one thing here at HWDT, and that’s the start of our survey season. We’re incredibly excited this year for our early season Joint Warrior survey, which has been successfully running since 2009.

HWDT Welcomes New Boat Manager

Earlier this month, we welcomed another new face to the HWDT team! Emma Burgess, who has previously worked for the Trust as First Mate, and then additionally as Boat Manager in 2011 and 2012, has now joined us again as our new Boat Manager in 2018.

End of Season Summary

Now back in Tobermory bay for winter refurbishment, Silurian’s survey season for the year is at an end, and what a year it’s been! This summer, Silurian has travelled a whopping 9,500km, and has collected almost 4,000 individual animal sightings.

Survey Summary: HWDT 11

During the survey we covered 265 nautical miles, spending 46 hours on effort looking for cetaceans, with a total of 1.5 hours logged “with whales” (or for this trip with dolphins!). Read more about our first 'Ullapool Survey' of 2017.
