Earlier this month, we welcomed another new face to the HWDT team! Emma Burgess, who has previously worked for the Trust as First Mate, and then additionally as Boat Manager in 2011 and 2012, has now joined us again as our new Boat Manager in 2018.

Scottish Government Agree to Support Four Marine Protected Areas in Scotland for Whales, Dolphins and Sharks

This week HWDT were delighted to hear that the Scottish Government will be providing the funding needed to take four proposed Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in Scottish waters to public consultation. This has followed HWDT working closely with conservation partners through Scottish Environment LINK to call for the Government to progress these sites.

End of Season Summary

Now back in Tobermory bay for winter refurbishment, Silurian’s survey season for the year is at an end, and what a year it’s been! This summer, Silurian has travelled a whopping 9,500km, and has collected almost 4,000 individual animal sightings.
