Join HWDT for British Science Week!

Pupils from the wonderful Sunnyside Primary in Glasgow taking part in one of our online sessions

Throughout British Science Week, we are offering the choice of two live education sessions for schools and home educators.

From 14 - 18 March, we will be offering live Whales, Dolphins and Sharks talk and Q&A for P1-4 and Working with Whales Q&A for P5-7, with dedicated time slots for home educators.

This session was the most engaging for the pupils and informative live lesson we have taken part in. The children were fully engaged from start to finish, as the wildlife we were learning about was local to us.

The Whales, Dolphins and Sharks talk and Q&A, aimed at P1-4, introduces pupils to three different species seen throughout the west coast of Scotland. The sessions include video and sound clips, looking at bones and taking part in a quiz. The pupils then have the chance to ask questions and share their best wildlife encounter.

The P5-7 session, Working with Whales, gives pupils the opportunity to quiz the experts and discover what it is like to live and work on our whale research yacht, Silurian. Find out what it’s like sleeping on a boat, if the crew ever feel seasick, how our research has grown over the years and what’s been our best sighting, plus lots more!

All classes taking part in this session will receive bonus material, gaining special access to our brand-new Floating Classroom on a Cloud digital series, packed full of videos, teaching resources and activities. We encourage classes to complete lesson 1 prior to the live Q&A, but this is not essential.

We have loved taking part in all of the lessons, it’s a great way to encourage online learning and has given us a boost of energy and optimism. Thank you.
