What is the digital Floating Classroom?
A series of four double lessons based around HWDT’s whale and dolphin research and sailing boat, Silurian. Lessons are provided as google slides presentations with videos, interactive activities and worksheets. These have been designed for upper primary school pupils (P5-7 classes).
What does each lesson cover?
1. Silurian – Introduction to our whale research yacht
2. Whales and dolphins – Can you tell a porpoise from a whale?
3. Sighting! – Using science and maths to record whales accurately
4. Dolphin communication and underwater noise
What about the live teaching?
All classes taking part in our digital Floating Classroom can book a live 30 minute Q&A session, focused around working with whales. This session complements the learning and gives pupils a chance to quiz the experts and discover what it is like to live and work on our whale research yacht, Silurian.
