HWDT Response to Coronavirus

Following the UK Government’s latest advice and guidance on coronavirus, HWDT have made the difficult decision to cancel or postpone many of our upcoming charitable activities, including cancelling all research expeditions from now until 15th May.

The decision was not made lightly and we are incredibly disappointed to have to cancel any of our activities, especially research expeditions and the essential long-term marine mammal monitoring we carry out in Scotland. However, in light of the new advice to avoid non-essential travel and social contact we feel that this is the most responsible decision to take at this time. The safety and well-being of our participants, crew and the wider communities in which we work is paramount. We also take our role in helping to reduce the transmission of the virus seriously.

Our Discovery Centre and shop in Tobermory is due to open for Easter, however please note that this is under regular review and we will provide further updates on this following official advice announced closer to the time.

These are unprecedented circumstances and we need your support more than ever to deliver our essential long-term monitoring efforts when the situation improves. As a small charity we will strive to do all we can to deliver our mission. We recognise that for many people this year is going to be very difficult. However, if you feel that you can support us further at this time, we would urge you to please consider booking on a survey later this year, or in advance for 2021, or alternatively to make a donation towards our conservation work.

Please contact us on info@hwdt.org if you can help or on 01688 302620 to discuss how you may be able to support our vital monitoring work.
