For the last 16 years, Silurian has travelled thousands of miles every year off the west coast of Scotland to conduct ground-breaking research on whales, dolphins, porpoises and basking sharks.  Our findings, which contribute to the conservation and protection of UK cetaceans, are of global importance and recently featured in the BBC’s Blue Planet Live.

Marlow’s reputation in the Leisure Marine and yachting industry is world renowned and the British manufacturer are providing tough, durable and easy handling lines. Their donation to Silurian includes the main, mizzen and Yankee halyards, sheets and kickers.

This is a valuable contribution to our ongoing maintenance, ensuring the highest levels of safety onboard Silurian, and ultimately helps us achieve our survey and research objectives to further our understanding and conservation of Scottish whales, dolphins and porpoises.
— Emma Burgess, HWDT Boat Manager
