Join us on board our research yacht, Silurian, as we depart from Kyle of Lochalsh (where the bridge to Skye meets the mainland) to monitor the rich Hebridean seas. This unique eco-tourism experience is like no other in the UK; explore the wilds of the Hebrides, have some awesome wildlife experiences, meet fantastic people and join a community of people getting directly involved in the conservation of whales, dolphins, porpoises and basking sharks.
This expedition survey falls in the middle of our field season so we will be monitoring for both resident populations alongside seasonal visitors.
With rendezvous in Kyle of Lochalsh allowing for the monitoring of the seas off the Small Isles, Skye (and its surrounding islands, including the Sound of Raasay – the deepest inshore waters in the UK), Barra, South Uist and the Inner Minch.
Summer in the Hebrides is an awe inspiring time. The daylight hours are long and nature is takes full advantage of this with creatures foraging to feed their young and lay down fat stores for the winter months ahead.
