This unique survey will monitor the behaviour of our resident populations of porpoise and bottlenose dolphin, alongside our seasonal visitors, which coincides with the NATO military exercise Joint Warrior.
Joint Warrior is a twice-yearly, at-sea NATO military operation, carried out over two weeks in the Spring and Autumn off the west coast of Scotland. Each year, Silurian surveys are scheduled to coincide with these, where volunteers gain a broad range of training opportunities.
The Trust believes that it is incredibly important to monitor cetacean presence and behaviour during these exercises. Unusual behaviour has been documented historically and the Trust has committed to identify the impacts, if any, this will have on cetaceans and other marine animals in the area.
